Tucson

Posted by on 07/31/2007

Almost there… We drove today for about 6 hours to Tucson Az. The Holiday Inn in Gallup was a disaster and we were glad to get up at 6:30 am and get on the road.

We had breakfast at the Denny’s in Hollbrook Arizona and then motored onto Flagstaff.

The San Francisco Peaks, which shadow Flagstaff, rose up in our windshield as we headed West. I had not seen them in over 20 years and the sight brought a wave of good memories from my college days at NAU.

We stopped in town, my how it had grown, and walked around just a bit. The university was undergoing some massive construction on the North side so I was not able to show the girls around the campus. That will have to wait until another time.

Headed South from Flagstaff on I-17 to Phoenix stopping at several scenic overlooks so I could share the views with the Girls. The Valkyrie spotted the first Saguaro cactus and won the contest to pic t=our lunch place. She chose her favorite restaurant, Taco Bell. 😉

After a fine lunch at a spot just north of Phoenix we made our way through that enormous metropolis to hook up with I-10 and head Southeast to Tucson.

We scooted out to a the Conquistador Resort north of town to lay in for the night and catch our breath. It is a beautiful place. I can’t even describe how lovely. We have already decided to plan a return trip sometime soon!

Tomorrow we will sleep in and then pack the car one last time in order to make the 1.5 hour trek to Bisbee and our new diggs.

I may not have internet connectivity for a day or two, but will post more (including pics) as soon as I can.

Thank you all for your great comments and well wishes. I’ll be writing you back individually as soon as we get settled.
